Discussion

Thank you to last year’s board. Introduction of this year’s board. Thank you for volunteering.
Last year’s board did an astounding job at raising funds for the school and accomplished a great deal of things that benefited the teachers and the kids. Each new board member introduced themselves, their children’s ages, and why they felt compelled to volunteer for the PTO board. Advised members that all but one member are new to PTO and are still learning about a great many things. The PTO operates autonomously from the school and the principal. The board appreciates input from Dr. Chilton and the other teachers that come to the meetings and are very glad that they support the board. The board operates on parliamentary procedures and the board is in the process of bettering the by-laws that are currently in place for the PTO.

Discussion
The main goals of the board are to raise money to benefit the school that the district can’t or won’t pay for. Raising these funds without having the children peddle products, but by putting together functions that are fun for the families of the school. Other goals for this year’s board are to get PTO more known within the school and by other parents. To be available to all parents with suggestions and / or questions. As well as school spirit. As a board, have decided to change little from last year with minor adjustments. Until the board is more able to cover the events already done, have decided not to pursue new fundraisers at this time. However taking ideas to perhaps be put in place for following years. In the past, the PTO has purchased a shade structure, smart boards, computers, document cameras, playground equipment, and good pencil sharpeners.

Joanna spoke to the attendees of the meeting to relay what it was to be a liaison for the parent representative for the superintendent meetings. She meets with other parent reps from around the district as well and the superintendent and staff about what is going on the in the Gilbert School District. Meetings are typically organized by Dr. Allison. Many different types of parents are there, from kindergarten to high school. Football parents, band parents, parents of special needs children. Guest speakers come and talk about what is going on in schools today. Discuss legislation and how it will affect the schools. Let’s parents know how to alerts regarding weather to lock-downs. Joanna is Neely’s direct feed to the district if parents of Neely have an issue to be addressed.

Discussion
The most recent decision was to remove ½ day treat sales from the calendar. Currently reviewing other sales and / or other days that will be a better fit for the teachers, but still allow a treat fundraiser. Already have suggestions of morning donuts or otter pops on various full days.

Campbell’s Soup Lables – Susan Vail spoke about the Campbell’s Soup label collection as well as how to collect and volunteer to help raise funds this way. Last year, these funds purchased playground equipment as well as many dictionaries. Many more dictionaries are needed for the school, so that is the goal again this year.

Room Parents – Aileen Baldwin spoke about what it is to be a room parent, and she will be calling a meeting of room parents in the next week to hopefully speak to a few more of them and hand out packets with sample flyers and letters to send home. Flyers for basket donations to go out right after fall break. Room parents help communicate that the PTO needs volunteers.
Discussion
Fall Picnic – Heather spoke of ways to volunteer at or before the Fall Picnic. Sign up sheet went around the meeting with several options as well. Some volunteers come from GCA, however many more parents and teachers are needed to fill slots for Silly String, Clean Up, Set Up as well as sorting presale wrist bands and presale tickets. Kelcey stated that the coral needs to be rebuilt and volunteers were needed for that as well.
